A native tree in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, and elsewhere). It is used in folk medicine as a stimulant (at low doses), sedative (at high doses), It is legal in most other countries, including the United States and all of Europe.

There are a number of online merchants who sell the dried leaves, extracts, or both. Beware of misleading labels and marketing hype. Some vendors offer several different grades of Kratom leaves (with names such as "premium," "super," and "super premium"). but it does not appear that vendors have found a reliable method for separating the leaves accordingly. It is important to find a trustworthy source. There have been problems with some vendors selling bogus "kratom" (misrepresenting Mitragyna javanica, stipulosa or else as  kratom).

Note that the final quality of the Kratom leafs depends not only on the Kratom leafs variety but also on the cultivation methods, the gathering of the leaves.
